You are in Italy and you must introduce yourself. Where do you find? If you are in an informal situation, no problem, you will see that the Italians-if they cannot speak English – will begin to speak with you slowly, articulating the words and make a lot of the gestures.
I swear to you that they don’t want to treat you like stupid, but they are trying to help you. Come on introduce yourself!
Ciao. Mi chiamo Laura
( Hallo, my name is XXX)
First step is done!
Different situation. You are in an office. In this case it is very unlikely that someone does not speak English, however, imagine that you make a good impression introducing yourself in Italian language. Hence the phrase suitable for a formal situation.
Buongiorno mi permetta di presentarmi il mio nome è Laura Rossi
( Goodmoorning, I‘d like to introduce you myself. My name is Laura Rossi)
Ps. Use it only in cases of formal situation otherwise you might look like a nineteenth century noble totally out of place!
