Perché visitare il castello di Masino? Why should you visit the Masino castle? (Piemonte)°

Laura | 20 luglio 2016 | travel in Italy | Nessun commento

I was surprised when I discovered that there are about 500 castles in  Piedmont… 500 is a huge number!  I’d like to visit the main castles of this region because I find them beautiful and interesting.

The last castle that I have visited is CASTELLO DI MASINO

This castle is managed by the FAI, an important Italian association that manage a lot of important natural sites and Italian art.

Masino Castle is situated on top of a gentle green hill –  from the summit you can admire the Viverone lake and a part of Canavese(an area rich in traditions where the artisanal production of wine is very active).

Inside the castle there are 30 monumental rooms decorated with frescoes and a nice decors. You can find large rooms (with their sumptuous frescoes of the 17th and 18th century) as   the Chamber Ambassadors, the apartment of the queen (Marie Christine of France) and many others.

Magnifica!

One of the most interesting parts of the castle is the ballroom.

This room has large windows and the walls decorated with many frescoes-do not forget to admire the dome.
Amazing!

You can also admire damasks, collections of miniatures, the portraits of “beautiful ladies” of the 17th century” the velvet armchairs, the tables and the sumptuous fine pottery all combined into a single majestic environment

During your visit you can admire the “Red Room”. It is a great example of how it was originally the Castello di Masino.

Around the castle you will find a garden in Italian style where you can walk calmly.
On the left of the castle there  is the labyrinth where it is fun to come to find the point of the arrival

The maze was a widespread element in the gardens of the time.
From here you can admire a splendid panorama of the Canavese.

Masino Castleis a nice place overlooking a sleepy village

This is an area  no so much know from the mass tourism, but very interesting to discover.

I give a my personal suggestion.
You should take a break in the ristoro of the castle. The owner is a very nice person, you feel the scent of flowers in the shade and you can enjoy a good hot apple pie!
(Ok ok, the apple pie is my favorite, but believe me, this
cake is amazing!)

The tour starts every hour (then at 10:00 then 11:00 then 12:00 etc etc)
